If you’re unhappy with the wrinkles on your face, you may be considering Botox injections. But is Botox right for you? Here, we’ll review what it takes to be a good Botox candidate.

How Botox Works?

Botox is an injection administered directly under the skin on your face. It’s called Botox because it contains something called botulinum toxin.

Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin. This neurotoxin, when administered in small doses, harmlessly relaxes your facial muscles. Repeated muscle movement in specific facial muscles causes facial lines like crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and even lines around the neck.

Injecting Botox into these muscles reduces the appearance of these lines and makes them look less severe. Botox is temporary because your body will eventually process the neurotoxin in your muscles.

When this occurs, the lines on your face will start to reappear. The time it takes this to happen depends on the regularity of your Botox injections.

With regular maintenance, most lines will begin reappearing after a few months. To maintain the appearance achieved through Botox, you’ll need regular injections every few months.

You are a good candidate for Botox if one or more of the following applies to you:

You have crow’s feet or worry lines around your eyes
You have moderate to severe frown lines between the brows
You find that your makeup is collecting in facial creases and lines
You’re experiencing a droopy brow
You have lines above your upper lip
